As an Indian immigrant and a mother to first-gen Americans, I can relate to your piece at multiple levels. In addition to the racial distinction, I've also written about the colorism I experienced growing up in India and being discriminated by people of the same race.

With age comes wisdom and a lot of courage to speak my truth, and I too feel the need to speak up from pronouncing my name right to more egregious things said.
