Brad, as someone who has moved a lot, I can relate to your story and your grief about missing "home." At one point I felt like you were my neighbor in Westchester. :)

Know that NYC will always be and feel like home to you. That's never changing. I feel the same about Chennai. I know that IF life has to ever take me back there, I will do just fine.
