Claire, I was in only one serious relationship that turned into a 19 year marriage. In hindsight, I got into it for all the reasons you stated - I liked the attention I received. But that soon disappeared and I realized after many years of unhappiness that there was no changing him. I left. Now I’m happy on my own, happy for now. Learning and reflecting to not repeat the same mistakes.
