Deb, I am sorry this happened to you. First, with the boy and then with your parents.

I was in 10th grade when my mother read my diary and kept it back in its secret place and told my dad about it and he read it too. I am grateful that my father never laid a finger on me, but I did get my share of yelling and grounding. Nothing near the level you describe.

I agree these incidents imprint in our minds for the rest of our lives. When my 15 yr-old decided to take my car out and dinged it to the garage, I thought long and hard about my response. He was remorseful as is and all I could do was give him a hug and say it's ok.

I hope writing about this trauma is helping with the healing. It's important to talk about it.
