I am a self-certified foodie. Food is an emotion for me. Food evokes a sense of excitement and joy to put thought into what I am going to make or the meal I am going to experience.

One of my favorite times of the day is when I am by myself, being mindful of what I put into my body. To that end, I treat my body with care and respect. Maybe it’s a trait I acquired from my father, but I believe that anything in moderation and balance will not harm you.

Growing up in a vegetarian, Brahmin household, I love all different types of vegetables. Although I didn’t like brinjal (eggplant), capsicum (bell peppers), and bitter gourd (bitter melon) as a kid, I have grown to love these vegetables as an adult.

And if you know anything about Brahmin cooking, there is a built-in inclination to cook in the simplest of methods with minimal use of oil, preserving the nutritional value of the vegetables. What I call “clean cooking.”

What is now called intermittent fasting was also a built-in feature in most Brahmin households. We didn’t have the concept of breakfast. We would eat an early lunch at around 11 am or 11:30 am.
