Gary, this is a very interesting read. Yes, I too have come to believe that it is better not to have expectation of others. We can't control their behavior. However, your discussion on expectation is connected with friendships.

I don't expect anything from my friends. I am the giver and I will give without expecting anything in return. If I don't want to have a lonely evening, then I am the one to invite friends over for a meal. Food is a great reinforcer to get people through the door. I am not worried that they don't reciprocate the same. It's great that your friends came over when you invited them. Like you said, engage in activities and with people with similar interests.
