Hi C. A. Jaymes, this is story nerd Sandy. You have a way with your words and I was able to visualize you from your younger self's perspective. I was with you all along with the awkwardness you felt about your first kiss, not wanting to kiss him back, and not knowing how to react. Did you see Artie again?

Now as a reader - I empathize with your role of parentification and caregiver at a very young age. I am sure it was not easy, and it took away the prime years of your life when you needed the nurturing and care. Coming to think of it. I think I erased my first kiss from my memory.....the one that I remember fondly is the one that I choose to remember. :)
