As far the story nerd exercise is concerned, I think you got as personal as you could get. Perhaps, you could have used more personal examples by reflecting on men in your life or some aspects you considered beautiful.

As a reader, I do think men can be described as beautiful - beautiful from within maybe? Also, when talking about voices of singers, I think we don't hesitate to say - his voice is so beautiful. When we go into specific features, we use beautful as opposed to handsome. I don't think I've heard anyone say he has handsome blue eyes. It's beautiful eyes.

Let's make up the rules and start using beautiful or to be more sensitive to individual preferences, we can ask for their preference. :)
