I absolutely loved the honesty with which you approached the question of being a parent. I am glad you didn't cave into societal pressures and were true to yourself. Even better that your partner was on the same page as you. In hindsight, I am not sure my ex-husband wanted kids. I feel like he caved into becoming one and that's why he hasn't been able to embrace it till date.
