My daughter had just left that morning for college. I had kept my morning free to allow myself to sit with my feelings. We had a practice run when she was in Spain for her sophomore year of high school so the farewell was not emotional. We had rehearsed this bit before.

I had some work meetings in the afternoon scheduled on Zoom, and I had to coordinate that with my son’s schedule for the afternoon. It wasn’t particularly stressful, but I was feeling “blah” that morning.

A friend going through some tough times texted and asked if I could watch her dog for the afternoon on short notice. My initial inclination was to say “no” as I didn’t want to add complexity to my already blah day.

Before I declined her request, I wanted to look at my calendar for the day to check the exact time of my meetings and that’s when I read what was on my iPhone screen. It was a yellow-colored widget, a 1" x 1" square, that appeared larger than the other apps on my screen.

It read: I gladly support my friends.
