I didn't grow up with the four seasons. Only knew hot/tropical weather and a rainy season/monsoon. But I love your connection with Fall and October and your yearly practices. Now that I am experiecing the four seasons, I find Spring to give me hope with the new leaves and the new beginnings.....and maybe also the weather getting warmer.
