I do believe that people (friends in this case) come into our life for a season, a reason, or for life. I've moved around a fair bit too in my adult life and I have been able to find a tribe everywhere I have lived. There are always a core group of friends that you know will stand the test of time. We remain friends even after moving away and find reasons to meet up midpoint somewhere on the globe.
