I hear you. I was seeing a therapist for a very long time and although she had a feel good factor, I don't think we challenged me to do the inner work. With all the issues I had to process with my mother and culturally with divorce I wanted an Indian therapist. My best friend in India recommended someone and I have been meeting with her for the last 2-3 years.

She is really good at what she does. You are right, much of it is purging what we have in my our minds and having a sounding board. The other thing is to create the space to speak of the most uncomfortable feelings and emotions that run through us. A good therapist will help with that processing.

I have some great friends with whom I can openly speak of my issues, but I am a believer in doing the dirty inner work with a therapist and guide me through the changes. It also helps to hear the validation that the change is seen in my actions.
