I've been thinking a lot on this subject and think it is fine line here.

I went through parentification as a young adult, and I am very careful of how much weight I put on my children. I think the pendulum swings to the other end sometimes where I am shielding them from the very basics of being a thoughtful human. Some advice from my therapist was to show my children that I am human too - that I too feel pain and have feelings. As much as I am here for them, they have to think about what they say or do. I've dropped my "supermom" hat and now share with them when I am tired, in pain, or hurt from something they said or did.
