I think the initial texting behavior becomes like a second line of screening for many in online dating (the first line is having a decent profile to want to swipe right on). I agree with you that the daily empty pleasantries in the absence of any substantial exchange of information can be exhausting. This is especially true if there are multiple people in this stage of the dating game. But in the end, it's the right level of interest and text exchange that is needed to get past this stage to move on to the next. Like you said, if they found you less interested or not responsive enough, then you've filtered some of them right there.
