Megan, I needed to read this piece this morning. After failing at a marriage, I really don't think that marriage is a social construct to promote monogamy and an intact unit. The fairytale promise is also a societal concept. Pressure-cooker is the right word to describe this union. The operative word here is "choice" - we need to choose to be with someone and that can change over time.
