Tracing My Genealogy for Food and Cooking
When food is an emotion
The first question my son asks when I pick him up from school, “What’s for din-din?”
I say, “Chicken tikka masala and paratha.”
His response, “Yes, let’s gooo!” with excitement!
He has the same reaction with varying levels of excitement for pretty much any dish I cook.
My daughter is the same. There is an air of excitement about the upcoming meal. If there was an instrument to measure, I think we would be able to measure a correlation……….and we’d conclude that the level of excitement is directly proportional to the effort and care I take to make the meal.
Yes, I love cooking and feeding people.
May I add, I love eating too!
Tracing Back
My mother was a stay-at-home mom and she cooked everyday. She cooked because she had to. She didn’t enjoy cooking. Despite it being a daily task, her food tasted good. There are some dishes that I associate with her cooking and ask her to make them when she visits me.
My dad didn’t cook, but he carried a sense of excitement over food. For someone who was vegetarian and ate only Indian food, he brought attention to the nuances around food.
