Nathan, I can 100% relate to it as an Indian immigrant with my kids born in the US. When they told my mother they loved her, she didn’t have the repertoire to say it back to them. She said, OK, thank you! It became an inside joke for us. They literally taught her to say it back. I agree with you that the acts of service are their way of expressing their love and care. What I struggle with is the lack of emotional availability in discussing heavy topics and the feelings and emotions that go with it all. As we get older and we don’t find a way of converging our thoughts, the distance then grows.
