How would you rate yourself on being able to ask for help or are you the self-reliant kind?

I would rate myself a 9.5 on being self-reliant, and a low 1.5 on being able to ask for help. Why is that?

When was the last time you helped someone? Today, yesterday?

Helping comes as second nature to me. Sometimes I go out of my way to help others. It makes me feel good and I don’t expect anything in return.

I tell my kids that being helpful should be part of their daily mantra in life. Sidebar — The full mantra is: Be kind, be thoughtful, be helpful, be grateful, and be positive.

I have friends who are extremely helpful too, but I realize there is one thing in common between my helpful friends and me.

Can you guess what it is?

We are not only helpful, but we are highly self-reliant! From a very early age, we have grown up taking on doing things for ourselves and even assuming responsibility to do things for our parents. Being self-reliant simply means that we have grown to be more reliant on our own efforts and abilities.

A socio-emotional skill
