Seeing “Losing Things” with a Changed Perspective

Do you find yourself losing objects frequently or misplacing them and spending endless time trying to retrieve them?

I rarely lose things in my possession. I have a photographic memory and for the most part, I am organized and methodical enough that I am able to trace my steps back to find the item.

But on occasion when I do lose something or leave something behind and don’t get it back, I would be really hard on myself. But I present three incidents of losing something that has changed my perspective on the idea of losing things.

Incident#1: The iPhone

After finishing a meeting at work I gathered my things to go home. I walked to the car to only realize I did not have my phone. Now, I know I had my phone at the meeting. I realized it must have dropped somewhere along the way between the meeting room and the parking lot.

I retraced my steps back and forth to no avail. I checked the floor and tables/ chairs in the meeting room — nothing. I went home and pulled up the “Find your phone” feature on my iPad. It showed that the phone was switched off.
