Thank you for bringing attention to an important topic. I didn't have PPD with my first child, but it really hit me hard with my second child for various reasons: 1) We were in a foreign country where I didn't have my support system, 2) My then husband was working over time hours and I was left alone with two children under the age of 3 years old.

In the Indian culture, it is customary to have the maternal grandmother stay with the new mom and baby for at least 2-3 months. I never understood the custom until I realized these were built-in supports to prevent PPD. My mother was there for my son for the first two months. After she left is when reality dawned on me.

It was brutal and I didn't have the understanding and support of my then husband either. Sometimes I wonder how I got through those days without help.
