There are far fewer couples around me that show this bond of unity. There is more of the “we don’t see what happens behind closed doors” thing. But I agree, I do feel a tinge when I see a small act of affection or love or unity between a married couple. I am saddened that while my marriage held the envy and promise of having that, it nevertheless failed.
The grass is greener on the other side. Many of my married friends envy the freedom and the way I describe my relationship. They see that I am happy and wonder if it takes a divorce to be happy.
