They say, necessity is the mother of invention. Growing up in India, I learned several languages because they were spoken around me. Unfortunately, I haven't passed down any of those to my children who grew up with English in the United States. Like you said, it takes teamwork and a concerted effort to develop these skills and we failed at it as parents.
