This resonated with me. I think I started the ritual of good morning texts and soon we followed suit with the good night texts to make sure we were home safe. When I was traveling I wasn't sure if I could keep up with the time difference, but realized that it's not so much about the greeting than it is gesture of thinking about the person and letting them know with a text.
