When my children were younger, I too found date nights too cumbersome. It added more to my plate to find the sitter and do all the things to get ready to leave. I love your idea of the walks together or washing dishes together. I didn't have a spouse who would think it's worth his while to do these tasks. But I see how doing things together can build intimacy and growth in a relationship. So keep doing what you are doing.
